Molecular Biology Laboratory

Supporting advanced molecular research and training through state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise.

The Molecular Biology Laboratory at the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), Universiti Malaya, is dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture through cutting-edge research in plant–microbe interactions and molecular plant science. Our work focuses on understanding how plants respond to environmental stresses and pathogens, while developing innovative, non-chemical strategoes such as UV-based treatments and beneficial microbial applications to enhance crop resilience, productivity, and quality.

About the Laboratory

We integrate molecular biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics to explore plant defence mechanisms, transcriptomic responses, and the role of plant-growth promoting microorganisms, including rhizobacteria and mycorrhizal fungi. Our research also leverages microbial diversity from unique ecosystems to develop sustainable solutions for modern agriculture.

Through interdisciplinary research and innovation, we aim to reduce reliance on chemical inputs, improve crop health, and contribute to climate-resilient and sustainable food production systems.
