Advancing plant biotechnology research through safe, controlled environments and international biosafety standards.
The Plant Biotech Facility (PBF), established on 1 December 2009, supports transgenic plant and biosafety research at the University of Malaya. Designed in compliance with international biosafety standards (PCL-2), the facility enables safe, controlled and high-quality research and training.
The facility includes three independently controlled greenhouses, a preparation room and office space, supporting both academic and industry collaborations.
Facility Overview
The PBF complex consists of three modern greenhouses built according to Physical Containment Level 2 (PCL-2) guidelines of Australia & New Zealand, with annual compliance certification. The facility is designed to meet both current and future needs of plant biotechnology research, providing a secure and monitored environment to support innovation and practical application.
